Jeep Wrangler names most American vehicle for 2017

Needless to say, the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited already have pretty respectable American credentials. However, the Wrangler's military history isn't factored into its top ranking in the Cars.com 2017 American-Made Index (AMI) -- which makes it even more impressive that this dynamic duo took the number one spot.

A lot of factors were considered when selection the "most American-made" vehicle for 2017. For one, the Wrangler is assembled in Ohio. And secondly, over 90 percent of parts come from within 1,500 miles of the Toledo plant. A comprehensive list of AMI criteria is as follows:

  • Assembly location
  • Percentage of parts made in U.S.
  • Engine and transmission manufacturing location
  • Number of American workers employed by manufacturer (as compared to U.S. sales)

Cars.com removed the sales volume factor from AMI criteria, kicking the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord out of the top 10. This also made space for another Jeep model -- the Cherokee -- in the second-place spot.
