The 2018 RAM 1500 has plenty of configurations and trims to meet your pickup needs

The American truck market isn't exactly lean and shoppers have several options to choose from. However, if you're really looking to do some serious towing and hauling- not just making a few runs to the Home Depot or helping friends move couches on the weekend- then you're going to want to be behind of the wheel of a truck that has serious specs. At Garden City Jeep Chrysler Dodge we may be a little biased...but ultimately we believe the 2018 RAM  1500 is the best choice for those looking to push the limits.

Body styles and peeking under the hood

The RAM 1500 is a light-duty truck that has a seemingly endless amount of options. Shoppers can choose from three cab styles: Crew, Quad, and Regular Cab. The Crew comes in lengths of 5'7" or 6'4", the Quad in 6'4", and the Regular in 6'4" or 8'. Once the truck style and bed length are nailed down, shoppers also have three different engine options.

3.6L V6:

  • 269 lb-ft of torque
  • 305 horsepower
  • 7,600 pounds of max towing

3.0L EcoDiesel V6:

  • 420 lb-ft of torque
  • 240 horsepower
  • 9,210 pounds of max towing
  • It's also the only half-ton pickup with a Diesel option!

5.7L HEMI® V8:

  • 410 lb-ft of torque
  • 395 horsepower
  • 10,600 pounds of max towing

Other accolades worth noting, depending on which configuration you choose, include Best-In-Class highway fuel ratings of up to 27 mpg, a highway driving range up to 702 miles, and an Available four-corner suspension that is Class-Exclusive. Clearly, the 2018 RAM 1500 is here to get busy, but it's not all work and no play for the pickup. Other features you might find in the RAM 1500 of your choosing include the Uconnect system with a large touchscreen, a flashy driver information cluster, chrome accents, or useful aids like the RamBox® cargo system or side steps.

Arriving at the jobsite or pulling up to valet service: what RAM 1500 trim is right for you?

The 2018 RAM 1500 comes in several trims: Tradesman, Express, Big Horn, Rebel, Sport, Night, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. Don't feel overwhelmed, though. While there are a lot of choices, we think RAM does a good job really differentiating the 1500 lineup into the trucks that are mostly going to be working on the jobsite to the few that are near-luxury level with the flash and high-end appointments.

At our Long Island, NY dealership we specialize in the following trims: Express and Big Horn. For that reason, we'll dig into these two options the most.

The Express trim has a standard 3.6L V6 engine, but drivers who want more can get it in the 5.7L HEMI® V8.  Those who prefer to go light on the technology will appreciate that a 5-inch touchscreen is only an option and not standard. However, there is still a rearview camera for easy reversing which no one can really wrinkle their nose at in a big truck. The paint job on this trim is all one color- no chrome or contrasting hues- and the painted wheels are 17 inches. Again, it's great for drivers that don't want or need a lot of bells and whistles, but still desire a comfortable, powerful, and good-looking pickup.

Next up is the Big Horn and here is where things start to get a little flashy and tech-friendly. In place of painted wheels, these are 20-inches, chrome-clad, and bright. Along with a rearview camera there is also display and sound monitors on the front and rear of the Crew and Quad Cab options. There's also get a 5-inch touchscreen, 1-year SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth with voice recognition, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integrations. The Big Horn is a little nicer for commutes thanks to heated seats (perfect during New York winters) and 10-way power adjuster for the driver.

The Big Horn is a great balance of technology, looks, and budgets. But for kicks, let's look at the top-rated Limited trim. It's not just the list of amenities that's bigger; the standard engine is larger too! Goodbye 3.6L V6 and hello 5.7L HEMI® V8. You can heat all the seats, not just the front row, and the passenger sitting in the front can get extra comfortable, thanks to the 6-way power adjuster.

Because the Limited trim is made with comfort and luxury in mind, it doesn't skimp on the convenience technology. There's a huge 8.4-inch touchscreen, a long list of SiriusXM subscriptions- SirusXM Guardian, Traffic, Travel, and Radio-, crisp Alpine Speakers with a subwoofer, and sumptuous leather seats. We aren't exaggerating when we say the cabin would even impress luxury owners who drive German sedans.

Don't let the good looks fool you, though. The Limited is still a capable truck, which is why it has the Class-Exclusive Four-Corner Air Suspension technology and RamBox® for easy tool organization.
