Safety Recall S38 / NHTSA 16V-287 Left Front Halfshaft

June 21, 2016

FCA has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2016 model year Jeep® Cherokee vehicles.

The left front halfshaft on your vehicle may not have been heat treated properly during the manufacturing process.  An improperly heat treated left halfshaft could fracture without warning.  A fractured left halfshaft could damage underbody components and cause a crash without warning.

FCA will repair your vehicle free of charge.  To do this, your dealer will replace the left front halfshaft.  The work will take about one hour to complete.  However, additional time may be necessary depending on service schedules.

Simply contact your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or RAM dealer right away to schedule a service appointment.  Ask the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before your appointment.  Please bring this letter with you to your dealer.

For more information, call: (877) 211-1992.
